Mammoth Cave NP 4/21

Went for a hike in the morning exploring wildflowers and sink holes above the caves. We then went on a tour of the massive cave system. Only 2 miles of the over 400 mapped miles. Incomprehensible. It was very dark so not many good pics. Our guide wash amazingly entertaining, dry  sarcastic humor that had us in stitches!

Hot Springs NP 4/19

Hot Springs NP was the most "different" NP yet. More of a history museum than a park. Incredibly fascinating but tucked around a bustling town. We did do some small hikes and of course found some new wildflowers. The Springs were everywhere. Many covered for safety. The green boxes are examples of covered Springs. A glimps of "Bath House Row" The visitor center is in one of the bath houses and is converted on to a 3 story museum so you get a feel of how it was in its hayday. Complete with an early Otis Elevator!! So much fun to see! Very elegant parlors and rooms. View of the town from the mountain tower. The park actually has a Brewery that makes beer and rootbeer from the spring water! And specializes in root beer floats , which if course we had to try! There are mineral spring water filling station

Left Dyess Air force base for Hot Springs AR. It was our 3rd stay this trip at a FamCamp (through Jerry's Veteran status) They are a great new bonus. Lots of history and amenities. Dallas TX Stopped for gas and found a local taco bar inside the Travel center!! Lol, only in Texas! They were amazing!!  Found an amazing  Core of Engineers Campground on Brady Mountain Recreation area on this Lake, 30 minutes from Hot Springs. A real gem! Now THIS is my idea of camping!!

Leaving Big Bend heading towards Hot Springs NP

So sad to say goodbye to my desert plant friends! They hold duch a special place in my heart for some reason. I think it's because they are like the underdogs. They flourish beyond our belief! Good bye Big Bend! I hope to see you again!! One of our last Mexican Lunches and we struck gold!! Tiny hole in the wall. So good and fresh . They make their own tortillas. So tender and amazing.  Then through the Texas oil fields. Dust everywhere! And you could actually smell petroleum in the air. Kind of surreal after the beautiful desert. Finished the day with one more Mexican meal! Omg sauted gulf shrimp SO SO SO GOOD!! A perfect end to our desert extravaganza! Tomorrow off to Hot Springs NP
